What is Parable?

A parable is a realistic, simple and short narrative story which is meant for conveying a moral or religious lesson by the help of comparisons. It is a type of an allegory.

It was mostly used by Jesus Christ to make his disciples understand what he said. A parable is slightly different from fable which is also a kind of allegory to construct a point whereas parable is composed or told in response to a specific situation and addresses that situation, at least implicitly, in an allegorical manner.
